Fake ransomware uses phishing emails for fraud

Fraudsters are using the fear of major ransomware attacks like WannaCry to threaten people into paying out.

Phishing emails have been sent out claiming that files will be permanently deleted if a payment of 0.1 bitcoin isn’t received.

The catch? The ransomware they say they’ve installed doesn’t exist.

The devices aren’t actually infected, meaning the threat is completely fake.

However, many people could still fall for the scam and pay up. Experts recommend deleting and reporting the emails if you receive them.
