Top 10 most dangerous artists to search for online

Users searching for their favorite artists at work are putting the company’s data at risk. Hackers are hiding malicious links in the top search results that can steal user information or install malware on the computer.

McAfee studied the search results for popular music artists and found the top 10 artist search results that were the most harmful. Their search terms were used across Bing, Google and Yahoo! and were followed by risky search terms such as “free mp3.”

Having the latest albums available for streaming or download is tempting, and users aren’t nearly suspicious enough. The McAfee researchers advise that “consumers [be more aware] of the cybersecurity risks of clicking on links that promise the latest content from celebrities, particularly when they’re offering it for free.”

The number one spot, with 1 out of every 10 search results malicious in some way, was Craig David. Others to make the list were:

  • Emeli Sande
  • Liam Payne
  • Adele
  • Ed Sheeran
  • Jessi J
  • Zayn Malik
  • Rita Ora
  • Charli XCX, and
  • Lily Allen.
