TN hospital attacked, 24K records vulnerable

A Tennessee hospital’s electronic health record (EHR) system was hacked by a cryptocurrency-mining software, exposing the info of more than 24,000 patients.

Decatur County General Hospital in Parsons, TN, discovered malicious software installed on its EHR server that was meant to generate cryptocurrency. Although the attack was only intended to mine digital currency, there’s no guarantee hackers didn’t access patient data.

Potentially exposed info included patient names, Social Security numbers, addresses, clinical data and insurance details.
