Russian hacker uses malware to steal gas

A hacker in southern Russia was arrested for using malware to steal gasoline and resell it.

Denis Zayev sold malware to gas station employees that could be installed to divert fuel to an empty gas tank, where it could then be resold after cheating customers out of the gas they paid for.

The malware corrupted the gas pumps, cash registers and entire IT systems for the affected stations, making it difficult for police to identify Zayev as the culprit.
