It’s official: People are addicted to Facebook

The results of a recent survey on users’ social networking habits might surprise even the most tech-savvy folks.

Nearly half (48%) of people say they they update their Facebook or Twitter profiles in the middle of the night or as soon as they wake up, according to a recent survey by electronics shopping site Retrevo.

The survey polled 1,000 Americans. Other findings:

  • 40% of people don’t mind when an important activity is interrupted by a message sent through a social networking site
  • 33% would interrupt a meal to read message, and
  • 7% would read a message during an “intimate moment.”

Says Retrevo: “You have to wonder if these people aren’t suffering from some sort of addiction to social media.”
