IT employment back to 2008 levels

The IT sector has seen some good economic news lately, and that continues with the latest employment figures:

In November of 2008, 4 million people were active in IT jobs in the U.S. That number represented an all-time high.

After that, thanks to the recession, the number dropped significantly.

But now, IT employment has surpassed 4 million jobs again, ComputerWorld reports.

Another promising sign for the future: The number of IT jobs — currently 4,009,900, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics — has increased for 16 straight months.

That’s good news for companies, but it also means IT managers could face more competition when hiring employees. For some, it may be time to rethink hiring and compensation practices to remain attractive to current and potential IT staffers.
