The first step to repairing the damage from a security attack is discovering it. But a new study shows nearly half of companies having trouble detecting data breaches.
Half of companies say it can take them at least a month before they detect data breaches, according to a recent survey by the Ponemon Institute. And 41% can’t determine how frequently their networks are attacked.
Many more companies that discover attacks can’t say for sure when the breaches started or how long they lasted.
That causes problems when it comes to repairing damages and allocating resources to protect future threats.
Experts’ recommendation: Invest not only in security controls, but also in effective detection tools.
