Which IT pros are hardest to find?

Slowly but surely, IT departments are starting to hire again. What skills are CIOs looking for?

About 9% of IT managers say they’re going to hire new employees in the remaining months of 2010, according to a recent survey by Robert Half Technology. Just 6% expect cutbacks, for a net gain of 3%. That’s up three points from this time last year.

Which IT skills are companies looking for? The top skill sets, according to the survey’s respondents:

  1. Network administration (60%)
  2. Database management (54%)
  3. Windows administration (51%), and
  4. Help desk support (51%).

When asked what skills were the hardest to find, the most popular answers were networking (21%), security (13%) and help desk support (13%).
