Security researchers have uncovered a malware campaign that’s targeting computer users as well as folks who access Facebook with smartphones.
Analysts at security firm AppRiver reported that they’ve found a new campaign in which hackers are sending messages to Facebook users. The messages are disguised to look like they’re from Facebook, but they contain several malicious links. If any of those thinks are clicked, the user’s machine is infected with malware.
Hackers’ use of Facebook to spread malware is nothing new, but AppRiver says this case is different. This virus campaign is also targeting smartphones with the Facebook application installed, PC World reports.
AppRiver announced it has blocked approximately 15,000 messages — or 133 per minute — related to this attack.
Warn users to watch out for these phony messages on both their PCs and mobile devices.
