Users don’t know malware can attack smartphones

Despite recent events that show otherwise, many users still aren’t aware their smartphones can be infected with malware.

Just 27% of smartphone owners say they’re concerned about malware attacking their mobile devices, according to a recent survey by Russia security firm Kaspersky. The rest are either unconcerned or unaware that there’s any danger.

Moreover, only half even know security software is available for mobile phones, and just 10% actually use it.

If folks are that nonchalant about the threats posed to company-issued smartphones, a lot of corporate data could be in real danger. As recent virus attacks on Android phones show, it’s time to take mobile malware seriously.

The first step is making users aware the threat is out there.
