How much does your IT department spend on security? How do you match up with your peers? A recent survey has the answers.
The average company spends 5% of its total IT budget on security measures, according to a recent Gartner survey of 1,500 IT managers.
In 2009, companies spent an average of $525 per employee on security. That’s compared to $636 in 2008, and $510 in 2007.
Where are security funds being allocated? Of the total security budget, companies spent:
- 36% on security personnel
- 25% on software
- 20% on hardware
- 10% on outsourced services, and
- 9% on consulting.
