According to Gartner, IT spending worldwide is expected to be $3.6 trillion in 2011, a 5.1% increase from the $3.4 trillion spent in 2010.
Despite the slow global economic recovery, these following IT markets are expected to have a strong growth:
- IT Services (e.g. storage, networking, software, security services, etc) – 4.6% from 2.5% in 2010
- Enterprise software – 7.5% from 6.1% in 2010
- Telecommunications equipment – 9.1% from 14.0% in 2010
- Telecommunications services – 3.4% from 3.9% in 2010
Gartner suggests that “strong sales of mobile devices in 3Q 2010, driven by smartphones in mature markets…as well as stronger local currencies” are reasons they predict strong spending growth this year.
One reason for the rise in spending on IT services: Budgets have yet to fully recover, and outsourcing some IT operations is one way companies get more out of limited tech resources.
