Even highly trusted websites are capable of being taken over by hackers.
Security vendor McAfee’s website was recently found to have several security vulnerabilities, which left the site open to cross-site scripting and other types of attacks.
The bugs were discovered by the YGN Ethical Hacker Group and reported to McAfee in February, CSO.com reports.
The lesson for IT: All sites can be potentially vulnerable to flaws. Security tactics such as filtering out specific dangerous websites and training users to avoid certain parts of the web are no longer viable.
It’s important to make users aware that malware can strike anywhere and use security tools that can find vulnerabilities on trusted websites.
