At the end of last month, Amazon’s EC2 cloud went down temporarily.
The outage shut down sites hosted by Amazon, such as Reddit, Foursquare and Quorra, and affected hundreds of Amazon cloud customers, CNN reports.
Though the incident could have had major consequences for affected companies, experts don’t predict rare outages such as this will negatively impact most businesses’ views of the cloud.
However, it should teach companies a lesson: Have back-up plans in place.
Experts recommend companies avoid keeping the only copies of data in the cloud, and instead use the cloud as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, local backups.
