Now that summer’s in full swing, most IT departments are probably having a tougher than usual time getting things done.
It’s no secret that productivity dips when the temperatures rise. Plenty of folks are out on vacation, or thinking about upcoming trips.
But here are some steps you can take to soften the blow:
- Cross-train staff — It won’t just get folks ready to cover for vacationing co-workers — learning new duties can also re-energize burnt-out employees.
- Offer flexible hours — The drop in productivity is most prevalent at certain times — for example, Friday afternoons. So offer more motivation by giving employees an option that lets them leave early as long as the work gets done.
- Let folks telecommute — It can be a big morale boost any time of the year, but especially in the summer when there are even more things staffers would rather do than sit in their cars to get to and from work.
